Chanhassen Dinner Theatre Footloose tickets

The musical Footloose is playing at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre starting tomorrow and running through May! Ticket King doesn't currently have tickets for the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre Footloose production, but it should because this musical, based on the movie, has got to be awesome! I am definitely planning on going, since Footloose was one of my favorite movies growing up! Who could resist Kevin Bacon in 1984 as Ren McCormack, the Chicago teenager transplanted to a small town that outlaws dancing and rock music!? Ren stirs up all kinds of trouble as he gets the small town to see that music and dancing is not responsible for the sins and hardships the town may have seen in the past, including the Reverend Shaw Moore's son dying in a car accident.

Footloose has made popular songs such as "Let's Hear it for the Boy," "Almost Paradise," and
"Hurts so Good" and of course, "Footloose."

Footloose became a musical in 1998 when it opened at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre and ran through 2000. The Footloose Musical was nominated for four Tony Awards. In 2006, Footloose opened for a London production starring Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Derek Hough as Ren. Footloose has seen both UK and US tours, as well as being very popular in school performances and theatre such as the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre.

There is talk of production starting in March 2010 for a film remake of Footloose that was originally to star Zac Efron, who later declined, and now Chace Crawford is said to be the leading roll. There was also talk of Derek Hough to reprise his London musical tour roll in the film. Derek Hough's sister, also a Dancing with the Stars alum and Country music singer, Julianne Hough, is the leading contender for the female role-which makes me hope that Derek is not the lead roll...as that would be awkward!

Everybody cut Footloose!
"Let's Hear it for the Boy" song lyrics: Rusty: My baby he dont talk sweet He ain't got much to say But he loves me, loves me, loves me I know that he loves me anyway And maybe he dont dress fine But i dont really mind Because every time he pulls me near I just want to cheer Lets hear it for the boy Lets give the boy a hand Lets hear it for my baby You know you go to understand Whoa, maybe he's no romeo But he's my lovin one-man show Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa Let's hear it for the boy Rusty, Ariel, Irene & Doreen My baby may not be rich He's wathcin every dime But he loves me loves me loves We always have a real good time And maybe he sings off key But thats alright by me Because what he does he does so well Makes me wanna yell Lets hear it for the boy Lets give the boy a hand Lets hear it for my baby You know you go to understand Maybe hes no romeo But hes my lovin one man show Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa Lets hear it for the boy Maybe hes no casanova Still his kisses knock me ov-ah Hear it for the boy Lets give the boy a hand Lets hear it for my baby You know you gotta understand Oh, he dont score at bowl-a-rama Still you gotta thank his mama Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa Lets hear it for the boy Hear it for my man Let's hear it for my baby

"Footloose" son lyrics: Been working so hard I'm punching my card Eight hours, for what Oh, tell me what I got I've done this feeling That time's just holdihg me down I'll hit the ceiling Or else I'll tear up this town Now I gotta cut Loose, footloose Kick off your Sunday shoes Please, Louise Pull me offa my knees Jack, get back C'mon before we crack Lose your blues Everybody cut footloose You're playkng so cool Obeykng every rule Dig way down in your heart You're yearning, yearnkng for some Somebody to tell you That life ain't passing you by I'm trying to tell you It will if you don't even try You can fly if you'd noly cut Loose, footloose Kick off your Sunday shoes Oowhee, Marie Shake it, shake it for me Whoa, Milo C'mon, c'mon let's go Lose your blues Everybody cut footloose We got to turn you around You put your feet on the ground Now take a hold of your ball I'm turning it

Hippodrome Performing Arts Center Phantom of the Opera Tickets!

The hugely popular musical Phantom of the Opera is running at the Hippodrome Performing Arts Center from April 8 through May 2 this year! There are a total of 35 performances of Phantom at the Hippodrome! Ticket King has tickets as low as $75 each in the Balcony section of the Hippodrome.

If you have not seen Phantom yet, you should definitely purchase your Hippodrome Phantom of the Opera tickets now, because it is a must see musical! Phantom is so widely known, and is now the longest running Broadway show, surpassing Cats! Phantom the musical opened in 1986 in London's West End and the first U.S. Tour started in 1991.

The main plot for Phantom focuses on a girl, Christine, who becomes the obsession of a musical genius known as "The Phantom of the
Opera" in 1881. The Phantom helps the girl hone her voice so she can get the lead parts at the opera house. The Phantom is jealous when Christine's childhood friend arrives and Christine starts to date her friend. The Phantom demands that the opera managers use his musicals and that Christine is the lead female, and keep a box open for him. When all his demands are not met, the Phantom gets really upset and starts causing trouble. Obviously there is a lot more to the plot, but I don't want to ruin it for those that have not seen it yet!

Phantom of the Opera is such an amazing musical, with an equally amazing soundtrack! I have seen a couple different versions of the movie, but have yet to see the musical live. My husband was lucky enough to see Phantom of the Opera in New York a few years ago and he absolutely loves it! He wants to see Phantom live again! We missed it in Minneapolis a few months ago, it wasn't a very long run, and we happen
ed to be out of town for a majority of the days that Phantom was here in Minneapolis. I will NOT be missing Phantom when it comes back to Minneapolis again!

If you've seen Phantom of the Opera, let me know where you saw it, and what you thought of the musical!

One of my favorite songs from the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack is "The Music of the Night." Here are "The Music of the Night" lyrics:

I have brought you to the seat of sweet music's throne ...
to this kingdom where all must pay homage to music ...
music...

You have come here, for one purpose, and one alone ...
I first heard you sing,
I have needed you with me, to serve me, to sing, for my music ...
my music ...

Night-time sharpens, heightens each sensation ...
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination ...
Silently the senses abandon thier defences ...

Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendour ...
Grasp it, sense it - tremulous and tender ...
Turn your face away from the garish light of day,
turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to the music of the night ...

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before!
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you'll live as you've never lived before ...

Softly, deftly, music shall surround you ...
Feel it, hear it, closing in around you ...
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkness which you know you cannot fight -
the darkness of the music of the night.

Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world!
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before!
Let your soul
Take you where you long to be!
Only then can you belong to me ...

Floating, falling, sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation!
Let the dream begin,
let your darker side give in to the power of
the music that I write - the power of the music of the night ...

You alone can make my song take flight -
help me make the music of the night ...

Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre Xanadu tickets

The still new musical Xanadu is playing at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in Orlando for 8 performances! Xanadu tickets are available for April 27 through May 2 at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre.

Xanadu the musical opened on Broadway in 2007. Xanadu was nominated for two Tony Awards, Best Musical and Best Book, but, sadly, did not win. Xanadu did win the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical as well as a Drama Desk Award for Best Book. The U.S. Tour of Xanadu began in December of 2009 and will be touring the Nation! Orlando is one of the lucky cities to be selected to have the Xanadu tour come to town! Don't delay in buying your Xanadu tickets!

Xanadu is based on the movie of the same name, that was a cult classic in 1980, starring Olivia Newton-John, just two years after her huge hit Grease. Xanadu is the second movie of Olivia Newton-John to be turned into a popular musical!

Xanadu runs for a mere 90 minutes, which is short for a musical, and does not have an intermission.

Watching Xanadu at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center you'll see the story of a Greek muse who comes down from Olympus to Venice Beach, California, circa 1980, to inspire an artist to create the first Roller Disco! Drama, laughter and adventure ensue when the muse falls in love with the mortal, which is not allowed! Xanadu includes all the great songs from the movie, including "Magic," "I'm Alive," and of course, "Xanadu."

Ticket King has tickets for just $65 each in the Balcony for the Saturday May 1st evening performance! These tickets won't last long! Be sure to purchase your Bob Carr Xanadu tickets today!

Xanadu lyrics:

A place where nobody dared to go
The love that we came to know
They call it Xanadu

And now
Open your eyes and see
What we have made is real
We are in Xanadu

A million lights are dancing
And there you are
A shooting star
An everlasting world
And you're here with me
Eternally

Xanadu, Xanadu,
(now we are here)
In Xanadu
Xanadu, Xanadu,
(now we are here)
In Xanadu

Xanadu, your neon lights will shine
For you, Xanadu

The love
The echoes of long ago
You needed the world to know
They are in Xanadu

The dream
That came through a million years
That lived on through all the tears
It came to Xanadu

A million lights are dancing
And there you are
A shooting star
An everlasting world
And you're here with me
Eternally

Xanadu, Xanadu,
(now we are here)
In Xanadu
Xanadu, Xanadu,
(now we are here)
In Xanadu

Now that I'm here
Now that you're near in Xanadu
Now that I'm here
Now that you're near in Xanadu
Xanadu...

I have not been lucky enough to see Wicked in person, YET! When I was living in Connecticut, Wicked was in Hartford, but by the time I found out, all the tickets were SOLD OUT!!! Now I am left to patiently waiting for the Wicked tour to come to Minneapolis, which I hope is SOON!!! I am a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz, and I cannot wait to see the pre-story of the Witches of Oz! Turns out the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North were roommates in college, and things are not always as they appear! Wicked shows the back story, and we might have everything all wrong with our assumptions on who is good and who is bad! What a great story idea!

Feed My Starving Children volunteering!

Hey Theatre-goers!

I just wanted to let you know about a volunteer opportunity I am doing later this month, something you and your friends, family or coworkers could do as well at some point!

It started as a coworker of mine seeing an article on the Star Tribune website for a volunteer opportunity for Minnesota bloggers...well, I do have this blog, so I checked into it. I would like to volunteer more often, but I find it hard when I have to go out and plan a volunteer opportunity for myself. I'm much better at having an opportunity in front of me and putting it on my calender! Once something is on my calender, it's pretty set in stone!

So, I put this one on my calender for Tuesday January 19th. I will be joining 39 other Minnesota bloggers, of all walks of life, at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) to pack specially formulated meals for starving children in over 60 countries.

Feed My Starving Children is a nonprofit christian organization that takes donations and finds volunteers to buy and pack the meals. One meal through FMSC costs only 17 cents! FMSC has been around since 1987. There are three Minnesota locations, and they accept groups starting at ten people to pack the meals.

I am very excited for this opportunity! What a fun thing to do with a group in your life, and be able to give back in a little way!

Avenue Q The Musical tickets coming to Minneapolis Orpheum Theatre

I am so excited that the hilarious musical Avenue Q is coming to Minneapolis! My husband and I are the only ones out of his immediate family that have yet to see this musical. His two sisters and their husbands, his brother, and his parents have all seen this musical already. That is why I bought my husband Avenue Q tickets for Christmas to see Avenue Q at the Orpheum Theatre in April!

Avenue Q tickets are available at the Orpheum Theatre from April 13-18th, for a total of 8 performances. Avenue Q is largely inspired by Sesame Street, with most of the musicals characters being puppets. HOWEVER, Avenue Q is NOT a children's show. The characters are older, in the 20-30 year old age range, and the characters face adult problems and themes and use profanity.

Avenue Q is written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx. Marx as well as the designer Rick Lyon have worked for Sesame Street in the past, which gave them the background with the puppets, but because of the adult material in the musical, Avenue Q does not claim any connection to the Sesame Workshop or The Jim Henson Company.

The Avenue Q setting takes place in an "outer-outer borough of New York City." There are maybe a dozen puppets, as well as human characters in the musical. The human characters include child TV star Gary Coleman as the apartment building superintendent (not actually played by Gary Coleman, but that would have been pretty cool!)

Avenue Q opened off-Broadway in March of 2003 and opened on Broadway in July 2003 and ran through September 2009. Avenue Q won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2004 as well as Best Book and Best Score-contending with the likes of Wicked!

Since I have yet to see the musical, I cannot tell you how great it is personally, but I have many great reviews, and read the synopsis online and it sounds absolutely hilarious!

If you've seen Avenue Q already, please let me know what you thought! I am anxiously awaiting April to get here, not only so the weather warms up, but also to finally see Avenue Q at the Orpheum Theatre!

What Do You Do with a B.A. in English? lyrics

What do you do with a B.A. in English,
What is my life going to be?
Four years of college and plenty of knowledge,
Have earned me this useless degree.

I can't pay the bills yet,
'Cause I have no skills yet,
The world is a big scary place.

But somehow I can't shake,
The feeling I might make,
A difference,
To the human race.

Morning, Brian.

Hi, Kate Monster.

How's life?

Disappointing.

What's the matter?

The catering company laid me off.

The Wizard of Oz Minneapolis Orpheum Theatre tickets

Get out your ruby red slippers and follow the Yellow Brick Road to Ticket King! The Wizard of Oz is storming into the Minneapolis Orpheum Theatre from March 26-28 for 5 performances only! Dorothy and the whole gang will be performing for you! Tickets are available now through Ticket King starting at $75 per ticket for Floor 3 row GG and as low as $145 for Floor 2 row C! Those are great seats! Check out the Orpheum Theatre seating chart to see where you could be sitting!

Wizard the Oz the stage musical is the same story as the 1939 movie starring Julie Garland, which is based on the novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum.
The song "Over the Rainbow" won an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and has gone on to be a hugely loved song ever since.

I am excited to see how the set will be done as well as how all the floating and flying will be interpreted in the musical. With the witches in bubbles and flying brooms and the flying monkeys, I think it will be a very exciting stage performance! I saw a high school adaptation of Wizard of Oz a couple months ago, and it was extremely good! If a high school performance can be as entertaining as that was, I bet that the Orpheum Theatre will be astounding!

Don't be a coward, buy your Wizard of Oz tickets today!

"Over The Rainbow" lyrics

Somewhere over the rainbow Way up high
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star

And wake up where the clouds are far behind me

Where troubles melt like lemon drops

A way above the chimney tops

That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow

Blue birds fly

Birds fly over the rainbow

Why then oh why can't I?

If happy little blue birds fly beyond the rainbow

Why oh why can't I?

Dirty Dancing Musical tickets coming to Minneapolis Orpheum Theatre in June

Hello Children of the 80's!!!!! (And everyone else that loves 80's movies!) One of my favorite movies ever, and definitely one of my top movies of the 1980s , Dirty Dancing, is coming to Minneapolis as a stage musical! The dates have not been announced yet, but I believe the Orpheum Theatre will be hosting Dirty Dancing in June. You know I will update you when I find out any new information! And Ticket King will be the place to buy your Dirty Dancing tickets for the Minneapolis Orpheum Theatre!

Dirty Dancing the movie came out in 1987, starring Patrick Swayze as the hunky dance instructor and Jennifer Grey as the ionic "Baby." Dirty Dancing really put Patrick Swayze on the map, and will probably stay one of the movies he is most remembered for.

The plot finds Baby (Grey) on a family vacation in the summer of 1963. Baby is the do-gooder, always obeying her father, the doctor, and wanting to save the world by joining the Peace Corps. Baby begins to see Johnny (Swayze), the dance instructor, and uses her fathers money to help Penny, Johnny's dance partner, pay for an illegal abortion. While Penny is off doing that, Baby learns a dance to fill in for Penny in a dance Penny and Johnny do at a neighboring resort. Even though Baby knows she'll have to tell her father what she used the money on, Baby asks her father for help when Penny's procedure goes amok and is in terrible pain. Baby's father assumes it was Johnny that got Penny in trouble and forbids Baby to see Johnny anymore. Among other reasons, Johnny is fired. At the end of the movie, Johnny comes back during the resorts last dance of the season and gets Baby from her place in the corner of her families dinner table, saying "Nobody puts Baby in a corner," (how romantic!) Baby and Johnny dance the last dance and amaze everyone, by the lift move they do, Baby's father included. This is just a very brief synopsis of the movie! There is so much more wonderfulness that the movie includes! If you haven't seen it, I insist that you go rent it right now!

Once you've seen the movie, or dust off your old VHS copy (like I am about to!) to refresh your memory, then you'll be all set to purchase your Dirty Dancing tickets as soon as they go on sale!

I am curious to see how the stage version incorporates the scene where Baby and Johnny practice the lift because in the movie, they practice in the lake.

The stage version of Dirty Dancing opened in 2004 in Australia. Dirty Dancing opened in the U.S. in September 2008 in Chicago. I am eagerly awaiting to hear exactly when Dirty Dancing tickets will be available for the Minneapolis tour, and will let you know as soon as I have more information!

(I've had) The Time of My Life lyrics

Boy: Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt like this before
Yes I swear it's the truth
and I owe it all to you

Girl: 'Cause I've had the time of my life
and I owe it all to you

Boy: I've been waiting for so long
Now I've finally found someone
To stand by me

Girl: We saw the writing on the wall
As we felt this magical fantasy

Both: Now with passion in our eyes
There's no way we could disguise it secretly
So we take each other's hand
'Cause we seem to understand the urgency

Boy: just remember

Girl: You're the one thing

Boy: I can't get enough of

Girl: So I'll tell you something

Both:This could be love because

(CHORUS)
Both: I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you
'Cause I've had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
'Til I found the truth
And I owe it all to you

Girl: With my body and soul
I want you more than you'll ever know

Boy: So we'll just let it go
Don't be afraid to lose control

Girl: Yes I know whats on your mind
When you say:
"Stay with me tonight."

Boy: Just remember
You're the one thing

Girl: I can't get enough of

Boy: So I'll tell you something

Both: This could be love because

(CHORUS)
Both: 'Cause I had the time of my life
No I've never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you
'Cause I've had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
Till I found the truth
and I owe it all to you

*Instrumental*

Boy: Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before

(Girl: Never Felt this way)

Boy: Yes I swear it's the truth
and I owe it all to you

Both: 'Cause I had the time of my life
And I've searched through every open door
Till I've found the truth
and I owe it all to you

Both: "cause I've had the time of my life
No I've never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you
