Wicked definitely gives you a different idea about why the Wicked Witch of the West is the way she is....if you've already seen Wicked, or after you see the show, please let me know what you think! I sure had to put my opinion of Elphaba on a pedestal and re-evaluate after reading the synopsis (because I have to admit, I've been wanting to see it, and when it's been in my area, I did not buy Wicked tickets early enough and missed out, so I finally had to read the storyline online!).
The musical version of Wicked premiered in May 2003, in San Francisco, and Wicked opened on Broadway at Gershwin Theatre in October 2003. Wicked was nominated for ten Tony Awards in 2004, winning three Tony Awards, for Best Leading Actress, Best Scenic Design and Best Costume design. Wicked did not win the Tony Award for Best Musical, losing to Avenue Q (check back soon for a blog about Avenue Q!!!).
