Theater Spotlight: Ordway Center of Performing Arts

Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is an independent, nonprofit arts organization located at 345 Washington Street in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Ordway Center has two venues, a 1,900-seat Main Hall and an intimate 306-seat McKnight Theatre.

In 1980, Saint Paul resident Sally Ordway Irvine challenged her community to help her create a performing arts venue in which her dream of offering "everything from opera to the Russian circus" could be realized. She set an example by making the first donation to a fund that eventually built Ordway Center.

The Ordway cost a total of 46 million dollars to build. Sally Ordway Irvine contributed a total of 7.5 million dollars and her family graciously matched that amount. The Ordway name comes from Sally's grandfather, Lucius Pond Ordway (1862-1948), a Saint Paul businessperson and early investor of 3M. The Center of Performing Arts was added to the Ordway name in January 2000, to reflect and embrace the multitude of performing arts available to the community.

The Ordway Music Theatre opened to the public on January 1, 1985. Throughout its existence, the Ordway Center has maintained Sally's vision of advocating the importance of arts for society by offering a busy schedule of theater, dance, music, family events, and educational programs.

Four organizations call the Ordway home: the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera, the Schubert Club and the St. Paul series of the Minnesota Orchestra. Touring plays, the Planet Ordway series of performance arts and other arts events fill out the schedule.

The Center is top notch and offers amenities like no other event theatre. The large, inviting front doors of Ordway Center are opened by a smiling greeter in a top hat and concessionaires serve you the finest in treats. Ushers formally show you to your seats and the entire staff is committed to providing the finest performing arts experience possible to its many patrons.

Sister's Christmas Catechism Ordway Center for the Performing Arts

The New York Times says, "Interactive Theatre at it's best and full of laughs," when referring to Sister's Christmas Catechism.

The interactive play Sister's Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi's Gold is playing at the Ordway Center for Performing Arts in St. Paul on the Ordway McKnight Theatre from December 13, 2011 through January 1, 2012.

The play has been compared to CSI: Bethlehem. It's a holiday mystery--what happened to Magi's gold. Telling the story of the nativity, Sister's Christmas Catechism puts a hilarious spin, while creating a living nativity using her scientific tools, being helped by a choir and audience members.

Another great way to spend an evening with friends and family members, getting in the holiday spirit and having some laughs!

Beauty and the Beast Musical Ordway Center for Performing Arts tickets

I am so excited to be living in Minneapolis again after three years in Connecticut. I thought living less than three hours from The Big Apple would be awesome! I thought I would be able to go into New York City and see any Broadway show that I wanted! Little did I know how expensive it would be to go to a play or musical in New York City! The theatre ticket prices are higher, it's expensive to drive and park or take the Amtrak, let alone get a hotel for a night! Needless to say, I did not frequent Broadway while living on the East Coast. Being back in Minneapolis, I can now afford to go to a Broadway show. Not only are the Minneapolis and St. Paul ticket prices much more affordable, I don't have to take an Amtrak into the city and stay in a hotel!

I am extremely pumped that I got my Beauty and the Beast tickets for the Ordway Center for Performing Arts. (A Christmas gift so some very special people in my life...cannot say who, in case they are reading my Blog!) Beauty and the Beast is one of my all time favorite Disney movies, and has defiantly been towards the top of my list of 'must see' theatre shows. St. Paul Ordway Center Beauty and the Beast tickets are available for the following dates while Beauty and the Beast is running at the Ordway: December 15, 2009 through January 3, 2010. Ticket King has tickets for the January 2, 2010 matinee performance starting at $115 in the orchestra section row E. Beauty and the Beast tickets for the Ordway Center will be an excellent Holiday gift for those in your life, along with many others, so I would buy your Ordway Center Beauty and the Beast tickets before it's too late!

Beauty and the Beast musical tickets have been available since 1994, when the Disney film of the same name was adapted for Broadway, and Beauty and the Beast ran on Broadway through 2007, becoming the sixth-longest running production in history. The Beauty and the Beast musical was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Beast Original Score. Out of those nine Tony Awards that Beauty and the Beast was nominated for, the only Tony Award that Beauty and the Beast won was for Best Costume Design.

Minneapolis and St. Paul are becoming more and more popular, it seems, as far as getting such high caliber broadway theatre shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Grease, The Lion King, etc into town, but who knows when the next time will be that Beauty and the Beast tickets are available in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area! Buy your tickets NOW online at www.TicketKingOnline.com or give Ticket King a call!
